POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of damaging dozens of cars and vans by deliberately slashing tyres.
Cheshire Police received reports of numerous vehicles being damaged in Ship Street and Ashton Drive area of Frodsham over the course of the past two weeks.
In many cases the tyres of the cars and vans had been slashed.
Vehicles were targeted on Ship Street sometime between the hours of 11pm on Sunday, September 16 and 7am on Monday, September 17.
Police patrols were stepped up in an attempt to reassure residents, prevent further damage and to track down the offenders.
Officers deployed on this initiative discovered more vehicles had been damaged while out on patrol at about 1am on Sunday, September 23, and once again tyres had been slashed.
Officers arrested a 55-year-old man from the Frodsham area shortly afterwards and he is now being questioned in connection with the damage.
Police are urging anyone who may have been targeted to report the matter by calling 101 or visiting Frodsham Police Station on Ship Street where arrangements have been made to take statements. A spokesman said: “A man has been arrested following a spate of damage to cars in Frodsham.
“The man from Frodsham was arrested by officers from the Western Rural NPU on Sunday, September 23 and remains in police custody.”
