FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a car blaze in Ellesmere Port this afternoon (September 9).

One engine from the town attended the incident on Church Parade shortly before 2.30pm.

The fire started in the engine compartment and crews posted a photograph on social media showing the damage caused to the vehicle.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Shortly before 2.30pm firefighters from Ellesmere Port were called to reports of a car fire on Church Parade.

"On arrival the crew found a fire in the engine compartment of a saloon car.

"One firefighter, wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

"The crew then used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.

"Firefighters were detained at the scene for around 40 minutes."
