They also want to hear from anyone who believes they may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the cars after they were stolen or information regarding the locations of the vehicles.

Detective Constable Roy Wellings said: “Burglary is a serious crime in which people are targeted in their own home – the place that they should be able to feel most safe.

“We are determined to catch whoever was responsible for the burglary and car thefts in Little Neston and bring them to justice.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who witnessed anything that may help our investigation to come forward.

“Equally I am keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the offenders or the stolen vehicles, as we from anyone who thinks they may know who the offenders are or where the stolen cars are.”

Police have also suggested a number of simple steps that residents can take to keep their homes secure and reduce their chances of becoming a victim, including:

  • Ensure that all windows are closed and doors are locked, even when you are at home or in the garden
  • Use security devices, such as steering locks, to keep vehicles secure
  • Never leave your car keys, or house keys, on display near a door or window
  • Use the security measures on modern windows, which allow them to let some air in but still be locked
  • Keep all valuables out of the line of sight of prying eyes
  • Always avoid keeping large amounts of cash in your home
  • If you are replacing or fitting new doors and windows, get ones that are certified to British Standard BS7950 (windows) or PAS 24-1 (doors)
  • Fit mortise locks (Kitemarked BS3621) to all front and back doors and locks to all downstairs windows or windows which are easy to reach
  • Fit a burglar alarm, but make sure it is installed properly and works
  • Keep your garage and garden shed locked with proper security locks, and keep any tools secure and out of sight
