SPOOKY goings-on at the Countess of Chester Hospital have featured in a new YouTube video seen by almost 350,000 people.

The film entitled ‘10 REAL Ghost Photos That Have the Internet Spooked’ includes a spine-chilling photo of a ghost on a ward at the hospital.

It was reportedly taken in 2014 by Chris Leadbetter at the bedside of his grandfather, Bob Large, who was being treated for bladder cancer at the time.

According to the narrator, the ward manager and other staff already knew about the spectre as many other patients had talked about seeing her.

Luckily, she is said to be a benevolent spirit with many people stating that they felt immediately better after their supernatural experience.

A visitor to ward 44, she is described as “saintly” with a hood draped over her head and apparently “comes in peace”.

Bob is quoted as saying: “The picture is of my guardian angel. I’ve been in that hospital on the same ward so many times. The vicar always comes in and says prayers and then goes and I always feel much better. Every time I feel like there is a presence in the room.”

A spokesman for the Countess told The Standard there had been no sightings reported recently.

But Therapies Assistant Lawrence Holland, who works at the hospital and also hosts alternative ghost tours of Chester for charity, said: “Working in the NHS you often hear of strange happenings in many different hospitals and ward settings, given the nature of what we do and with such a historic city like Chester on our doorstep we are no different.

“I remember this image appearing a few years ago and what was heartening about it at the time was the comfort the family seemed to get by describing the figure in the photograph as an angel looking down on their loved one.”

Lawrence’s next ghost tour of Chester will be taking place on Saturday, October 27, from approximately 6pm to 9pm. Places are £5, with all proceeds going towards the Countess Charity to raise money for new equipment on the stroke unit.
