A SERIES of events will take place throughout October to encourage healthy living for older people.

Vitality Month has been created by the dedicated staff from Cheshire’s main deafness charity DSN (Deafness Support Network).

Starting on Older People’s Day on October 1 at an event at Sanctuary Housing on Northgate Street, the team kick-started a series of signed ‘Top Ten Tips for health and wellbeing in older age’ in association with Age UK. An online competition was also launched to win a luxury pedicure with Michelle Garner Beauty and Holistic, Ellesmere Port on the charity Facebook page ‘Deafness Support Network’.

DSN’s popular You, Me and Tea, a monthly café and social group ultimately designed to meet the needs of D/deaf people with memory problems and/or dementia will take place in Northwich on Tuesday, October 23, hosted by Di Riley.

On Wednesday, October 24, there will be an Ageing Well workshop at Chester Deaf Centre, hosted by Marion Murphy. This is accessible for everyone where interpreters are present and there will be lots of information available and giveaways.

On Saturday, October 27, there will be a midnight walk around the walls of Chester hosted by DSN fundraiser Erica Jones. For more information on the walk contact ejones@dsnonline.co.uk.

Dr Jenna Littlejohn, from DSN, said: “Working with AgeUK we have tried to make the top ten tips as accessible for people with a hearing loss as possible. Simple things we take for granted that we do every single day, may in older age, get forgotten and we are keen to remind people how simple it is to look after yourself.”
