A YOUNG Ellesmere Port fundraiser who features on a fundraising campaign with TV star Scarlett Moffatt is preparing to hold a festive toy appeal party in aid of children at Alder Hey Hospital.

Five-year-old Poppy-Mae Jones, who has a chronic bowel condition, has already helped the hospital earlier this year with a fundraising seven-mile walk from Stanney Woods to Chester Zoo, an event which raised about £2,000.

Since then Poppy-Mae, of Mornington Avenue, has been asked to be an Ambassador for Alder Hey.

The Cambridge Road Primary School pupil appears with other youngsters treated at the hospital and reality TV star Scarlett Moffatt in the Matalan Alder Hey Superstars campaign.

To help other youngsters, a Christmas toy appeal party is to be held at The Rake pub in Rake Lane, Little Stanney, which will feature mascots, face painting and a raffle.

The fun day will take place on Saturday, November 17, from 1pm.

Mum Sharon Jones said: "So many children have to spend Christmas in hospital and it can't be easy for them or their families. So Poppy wanted to make her favourite time of year better for everyone."

People are invited to bring along gifts for children aged 0-16, as long as the gifts are new and meet the British Kitemark quality. Soft toys and teddy bears will not be accepted due to infection control at the hospital.

Gifts which can be accepted include musical toys, baby rattles, board games, plastic toys (in their original packaging), arts and crafts sets and DVDs (up to 12 certificate rating).

A Justgiving page has been set up at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/poppy-mae-jones for people unable to donate items but would prefer to make a cash donation.

Gifts can also be donated at a drop-off point at the McColl's store in the Port Arcades, Ellesmere Port.
