Wynne Construction has put the finishing touches to a major project, which has taken just over two years to complete.

Students at Coleg Cambria’s Bersham Road site are now enjoying a new state-of-the-art £10m engineering building.

And the Bodelwyddan-based company has been praised by the college for its approach to carrying out large-scale construction work on a live site, with pupils continuing to attend classes throughout.

In addition, the scheme, which also involved the revamp and refurbishment of three further buildings on site, saw Wynne Construction provide work experience to students studying at Bersham Road.

Graham Evans, head of capital build, at Coleg Cambria, said: “This is the fourth project Coleg Cambria has worked on with Wynne Construction and we are exceptionally pleased with the outcome.

“This project was very complex as we have 1,500 students on site, as well as a large school link provision of 400 under-16s attending one day per week, and during the project period the curriculum continued to run as normal.

“The communication from Wynne Construction was fantastic, and the pupils, teachers, and support staff were kept informed of planned works, which allowed them to plan accordingly.

“The team were also very flexible as we made some last-minute changes to create additional car parking spaces as we are aiming to increase the number of pupils attending Bersham Road for their engineering and construction courses, as well as attract companies for additional training.

“Our learners also had the added bonus of gaining valuable experience in seeing first hand the site and facilities evolve while they where undertaking their own training, which is a fabulous story in itself.”

Paul Roberts, site manager for Wynne Construction on the Coleg Cambria project, said: “We are very pleased with how this project progressed and with the finished works.

“It was challenging, and we drew upon all our expertise in working on live sites, as well as on educational projects, to ensure the client was happy throughout the two-year period.

“The Bersham Road building is constructed to BREEAM excellent standards, which sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation. It has become one of the most comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a building's environmental performance, and is a big focus for us on many of our projects.”
