SIX men have been jailed for the parts they played in a mass brawl in Neston.

At around 10pm on Saturday, May 19, a fight started outside a pub on Parkgate Road in Neston.

It followed a dispute between local men Harry Saint, 24, and Jake Walker, 23.

Saint was ejected from the pub by the licensee and beckoned Jake Walker to join him outside with the help of his friend Brandon Bell, 24.

Bell went in and out of the building acting as a go-between for Saint before being ejected himself.

Jake Walker left the pub with John Maddison, 21, and Andrew Clorley, 18, and a fight then broke out between the two groups of friends.

The fracas moved down the road towards Neston Library and caused motorists to have to stop and drive around the men involved.

At this point Jake Walker's dad, David Walker, 51, who had turned up following a phone call his son had made from inside the pub, got a starter pistol containing blank rounds from his car and fired it with the intention of scaring off Saint.

David Walker then fled the scene in his car and the other men involved went back towards the pub, where a mass brawl took place at the entrance to its car park.

CCTV footage of the brawl shows numerous punches and kicks landed and Saint and Clorley were left with minor injuries.

Saint, Jake Walker, David Walker, Bell, Madison and Clorley were all subsequently arrested and charged in relation to the incident.

Saint, Jake Walker, Bell, Madison and Clorley pleaded guilty to affray and David Walker admitted a charge of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

All six men were sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Friday, September 14.

Saint, of Gorstons Lane, Little Neston, Neston, was jailed for 15 months.

Jake Walker, of Mayfield Gardens, Neston, was given a one-year prison sentence.

Bell, of Badgers Park, Little Neston, Neston, was sentenced to nine months in jail.

Maddison, of Liverpool Road, Neston, was jailed for eight months.

Clorley, of Frobisher Road, Neston, was given a six-month prison sentence.

David Walker, of Spenser Road, Neston, was sentenced to nine months in jail.

Detective Inspector Nigel Parr said: "I am pleased that all six offenders have been jailed for the parts they played in the fighting in the centre of the small market town of Neston on a Saturday night back in May.

"People going out to enjoy a Saturday night should not have to put up with behaviour like that.

"The incident left witnesses frightened and motorists had to stop and drive around those brawling in the streets.

"The custodial sentences that have been handed down to the offenders shows behaviour like that will not be tolerated and I hope that this case sends out a strong message in that regard and deters others from starting or getting involved in fights.

"I would also like to praise the officers involved in the investigation for all the hard work they put in to bring the offenders to justice."
