DETECTIVES in Ellesmere Port have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a knife-point robbery at a local supermarket.

At 5.24pm on Friday, August 17, a man walked into Aldi on Wellington Road through the main doors and walked straight to the nearest till where a member of staff was sitting.

The man then produced a knife and held it next to the cashier while making demands for money.

He then reached into the till, grabbed a handful of cash and put it into a blue carrier bag before leaving the shop in the direction of Arthur Avenue and McGarva Way.

The offender is described as white, around 5ft 8 in height, of a slim build and aged in his 20s-30s with a pasty complexion and a straggly beard.

He was wearing a dark blue jacket over a light grey hooded top, dark tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.

When he entered the store he put on a black hooded garment which was buttoned under the chin but still exposed his full face.

Detective Constable Stuart Wood, of Ellesmere Port CID, said: "I am appealing to the public to cast their minds back to this time last month and if they remember seeing a man acting suspiciously in the supermarket and on leaving the store.

"Any information could help us with our investigation and I would encourage people to contact us on 101."
