GERMAN shoe and sportswear giant Deichmann is lining itself up to take the place of the former HMV store in Foregate Street, Chester.

The firm, which includes stores in Wrexham, Birkenhead and the Coliseum Shopping Park in Ellesmere Port as part of 98 existing UK shops, has submitted a planning application to Cheshire West and Chester Council for permission to change the signage on the front of the currently vacant store to promote its new identity.

Comments on the application must be submitted to the council's website at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk by September 29 for consideration, citing planning reference 18/03332/FUL.

Entertainment retailer HMV relocated from the Foregate Street site to a smaller store in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre in early 2018.

Deichmann was founded 105 years ago in Essen, Germany and has about 1,300 stores in its home country, with nearly 4,000 stores worldwide.
