THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for charity thanks to a hugely successful 'Full Monty'-style fundraiser at an Ellesmere Port club.

The event, held at Whitby Sports and Social Club, saw male and female dancers take to the stage and leaving little to the imagination.

Monies were collected for Cancer Research UK, in aid of both breast cancer and testicular cancer.

In addition to the stage show, there was a raffle where people could win such donated prizes as a Liverpool FC T-shirt and a week-long holiday in Spain.

Sarah Warner, one of the event organisers, said: "The show was a total success we are still calculating the final total but we have smashed our £5k total we hoped for and still have money coming in.

"The night could not have gone any better – the dancers even did an encore and danced again!

"The raffle prizes were fab, we cannot thank people enough for their support before and during the show. Whitby Sports and Social Club was extremely helpful and gave us time to rehearse there and free hire of the hall, it was true pride in the Port pulling off this show!

"Everyone from the lighting, Tom Kaye, Howard Dutton at HD photography, both gave their time and effort to set the stage and make the dancers feel professionals.

"Already we are being asked if we are making a DVD of the night, which we are looking at doing, and also we are being asked what we are going to do next year.

"Lindsay Letman from Leigh's Stationery's, Susan Pritchard and myself want to thank everyone who was involved in the show and for all of the support."

The choreographer for the men's dancing line-up was John Pemberton and the choreographer for the ladies was Lucy Davenport.

The male dancers taking part were Marc Jones, Warren Luis, Ian Schroder, Stuart Smitham, Mike Plevin and Josh Wood.

The female dancers to take part were Victoria Smitham, Jen Wilne, Netty Tarr, Charl Evans, Chris Evans, Caroline Maddocks, Vivienne Noonan, Marj Rainford, Emma Carswell and Suzanne May.
