A SECOND man has been arrested after more than £10,000 worth of damage at Chester Cathedral is believed to have been caused.

It is alleged an intruder broke in, smashed four stained glass windows, which date back to the 1920s, and damaged other property, as well as stealing money from the premises.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said 50-year-old man from Chester has been arrested on suspicion of burglary by officers investigating the incident.

On Wednesday, police arrested a 36-year-old Chester man but he has since been released with out charge.

Police officers were called to investigate the incident, which happened just after midnight on Tuesday, September 4.

It is believed footage of the incident has been captured on the cathedral’s extensive CCTV system.
