THE M6 was shut in both ways near the junction for Winwick on Tuesday night after a man was seen cycling on the road.
Police say the road was closed in both directions around 6.30pm near to junction 22 for Winwick and Newton.
A ‘vulnerable’ person was cycling on the road and is now receiving appropriate care.
Police also say they spotted a number of vehicles driving the wrong way up the slip road to avoid the traffic and that those whose registrations were recorded will be charged with a traffic offence.
