WREXHAM Maelor hospital benefitted from over £300 thanks to a Farndon music festival.

The Country Roads Music Festival was held at Farndon Community Club from August 24 to August 26.

On Sunday, August 26, Tracey Butler, organiser of the event, presented a cheque to Cherish, a parents’ support group linked to the special care baby unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Cherish aims to provide help to parents in the form of financial support or advice, to enable parents to visit their babies more easily.

The festival began back in 2009 when Mrs Butler arranged a country and western weekend for her daughter Sian’s 16th birthday.

Mrs Butler said: "The festival is held every August bank holiday weekend.

"It was attended by country music fans rom as far as Scotland, Essex, Somerset, Cheshire, Lancashire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.

"People arrived with their caravans, motor homes, and tents for the weekend to listen and dance to live British country music artists.

"The country roads festival raised £306.00 for Cherish and a cheque was presented to Ruth Drake from Cherish.

"The festival was enjoyed by all, planning is on the way for 2019.

"People have already booked for next year and artists have been confirmed."
