PEOPLE using the Co-op store and post office in Saughall have raised an impressive £240 for a charity that helps veterans.

The shop manager allowed Steven Ashton, of Veterans at Ease, to leave collection buckets inside and he said he has been overwhelmed by the response.

The charity is hoping to raise enough money to open an office in Chester that would also serve North Wales.

Steven, who is an ambassador for Veterans at Ease, told The Standard: “The aim of the charity is to raise awareness of the help that our veterans and their families need on leaving our military services.

“It provides counselling services for veterans with a range of mental health issues from PTSD to depression.”

He added: “The buckets were collected and the money counted and they presented me with a cheque for £240 which I was over the moon with.

“The Co-op manager Shakila Thompson was very helpful and has agreed to have the buckets long term in the shop.

“I would like to thank the staff and manager of the Co-op and the staff at the Post Office, also the general public who donated.”
