A SECOND charity football match in memory of a much-missed Broughton resident and Airbus employee will take place on Sunday, September 9.

The rematch, to be held at Airbus UK's football ground at Hollingsworth Group Stadium, Broughton, will be between a celebrity team from Once Upon a Smile and a team from the Offa's Dyke in Broughton.

It is being held in memory of John 'Badger' Park, a father of two, who had gone to work as normal and greeted his colleagues at Airbus in Broughton in February 2017.

But he was subsequently found collapsed by his locker and despite all attempts to save him, he was later pronounced dead at the Countess of Chester Hospital having suffered a heart attack. He was just 53.

Last year saw the first charity match held between the two sides and saw the celebrity team captained by Danny Miller (Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale) and also involved players including Dan Jillings (Hollyoaks, The Prey), Shane Richie Jnr and ex-professional footballer Danny Higginbotham, plus others.

The game resulted in a 7-7 draw, so Danny Miller suggested coming back this year for a rematch.

Last year's game raised over £3,600 and all money raised went to Once Upon A Smile and the British Heart Foundation. The same charities are to benefit from this year's fundraising match.

As well as the game, there will be a series of raffle prizes to be won and the chance to meet the celebrities at Broughton Wings Social Club after the game.

Gates open for the game on Sunday, September 9 at 12.30pm, with kick-off at 1.30pm. Advance tickets are available online at badgersboys.eventbrite.co.uk, priced £6 for adults, £3 for children aged between two and 16 and children aged under two are admitted free. Family tickets (two adults, two children) are also available for £15.
