A 90-year-old great grandfather has raised £500 for Claire House Children's Hospice.

Fred Miller, from Great Sutton, turned 90 on August 13 and to celebrate, his family organised a surprise birthday party.

When his daughter Ann was asked what Fred would want, it had to be a cash donation to Claire House.

Fred's great grandson AJ was looked after by staff at Claire House before he passed away aged nine in October 2015.

His daughter Ann said: "He was thrilled with the amount raised, people are so generous.

"And he as well and truly surprised with the party.

"We chose to donate to Claire House in memory of Fred's great grandson AJ.

"It's such a fantastic organisation and when AJ was there, they had so much for him to do.

"He loved the specially adapted swing for wheelchairs and the craft and sensory room.

"When he was receiving treatment at Alder Hey Hospital, the team brought a minion, as they were his favourite.

"Even after he passed, the team from Claire House have supported our family throughout.

"They are such a wonderful organisation and we're so lucky to have them on our doorstep.

"The team are just brilliant."
