A MUSIC student from The Hammond has seen a composition she used in her GCSE music exam go straight into the new UK iTunes Country Chart at number three.

Megan Basford, who achieved a top Grade 9 in music, composed ‘Train Song’ as part of her studies.

It has also entered the top 40 overall iTunes UK Country Chart.

Overall, the drama, dance and music school is said to have had an excellent year for GCSE results.

It reported an overall pass rate of 100 per cent with 85 per cent at Grades 9-4, 85 per cent achieving Grade 4 plus in maths and 94 per cent gaining Grade 4 plus in English.

Some individual students achieved outstanding results: dance student Keira Forster-Brown achieved six GCSEs at the new Grade 9, one level 8 and two level 7s.

Both Olivia Hollreiser and Ellen Faulkner gained two at Grade 9, with Ellen also gaining five at Grade 8, two at grade 7 and one at grade 6 and Olivia achieving two Level 8s, two level 7s and three level 6s.

Grace Meaden gained three Level 9s, three Level 8s, two Level 7s and one Level 6. Jake Tang achieved five GCSEs at level 9 and four at level 8.

Principal Maggie Evans said: "Performance, both on the stage and in the classroom, is The Hammond’s great strength, and these excellent results reflect the continuation of that strength.

"Many of the students will be staying with us to join one of our post-16 courses in dance, musical theatre or drama but we wish each of our Year 11 students, whatever their next steps, a happy and successful future career.’’
