PLANS are in the pipeline for an extension and refurbishment of a Wrexham church.

Wrexham Council has received an application seeking permission for the work to be carried out at the community church on Prices Lane, Rhosddu.

The plans include a potential single storey extension to the house foyer, an accessible entrance, as well as kitchen and toilet facilities.

A design and access statement submitted with the proposals states: "The building first appears on the 1898 OS (Ordnance Survey) map immediately adjacent to what is now Rhosddu Primary School.

"Currently the building has no listed status nor is it located in a conservation area but it is obviously a building of importance in the local community.

"The existing church building is generally brick with stone detailing and a slate roof. The single storey flat roof extension on the front of the building appears to be 1960's and will be demolished within this scheme.

"With the very distinctive style of architecture the existing church has, the logical style of design for the new scheme has to be modern in style and materials used.

"The proposed extension consists of timber cladding, render and glass to provide an open and welcoming feel to the Community Church."

Wrexham Council's planning committee will make a decision on the proposals at a future date.
