REDWALLS Nursing Home has been told it needs to improve following a CQC inspection.

The service was told it ‘requires improvement’ in the fields of safety, leadership, responsiveness and effectiveness and it was rated ‘good’ for how caring it is.

Despite concerns regarding safety still being present, improvements have been made.

The inspector said: “At the last inspection in November 2016 we identified a breach of Regulation 19 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 because recruitment processes were not robust.

“Following the inspection the registered provider submitted evidence of improvements in this area. During this inspection we also followed up on this and found improvements had been made. This meant the registered provider was no longer in breach of this regulation.”

The service does need to be more effective however.

The inspector said: “Training records showed that that not all staff had recently completed training in areas such safeguarding, moving and handling, infection control and first aid.

“The area manager clarified that there was a training plan in place to make improvements with regards to this.”

The service is said to be caring especially when it comes to offering care specific to the individuals needs.

The inspector said: “People each had a personalised care record in place which outlined their needs. The registered provider had updated their record system so that this information was stored electronically.

“Staff had been given handheld devices which they could use to update information in these records after they had provided support to people.”

Stephen Pullinger, head of public relations at Kingsley Healthcare Group, said: “We have a tremendous staff team at Redwalls and we are proud that the amazing care they give and the family atmosphere they create is acknowledged in the report.

“The inspectors arrived at Redwalls on our manager Doris Howick’s third day in post and it was the difficulties of that transition period that led to some of the issues highlighted in their report.

“Doris is a strong leader and I can confidently say she has swiftly acted to put those right.

“We are investing a very substantial sum in refurbishing Redwalls and I would invite people to come and look around and see the great improvements we are making.”
