It has been established there are approximately 600-700 tonnes of recycling paper and plastic on fire, in two separate warehouses on the site.

One police officer at the scene told the Standard he'd heard it could burn for several days.

The fire service spokesman added: "Crews are applying water jets in two areas and a diesel tank is also being cooled. Crews are also using hand held hoses and two ground monitors to apply water to the area.

"The police helicopter is currently in attendance assisting firefighters with an aerial inspection of the site.

"Residents in the local area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed."
