POLICE are appealing for information after an ATM theft in Bromborough.

Merseyside Police were called at around 1.30am on Tuesday (July 31) following a report that the Cheshire Building Society ATM on Allport Lane had been damaged by an explosion.

It is believed a Land Rover was also damaged along with the ATM which were abandoned at the scene.

The thieves drove off with a content of cash in and Audi and Mercedes.

Firefighters have attended the scene to make it safe and officers will be carrying out forensic and witness enquiries.

Detective inspector Siobhan Gainer said: “This is a really serious incident and thankfully no one was hurt during the incident, however the damage and inconvenience caused to local businesses and the public is significant.

"Those responsible have clearly given very little thought towards the safety of the wider community and that’s why we must work together to identify those responsible.

“Whilst we will continue to analyse the CCTV, seek witnesses and carry out forensic tests to identify the offenders, we are asking anyone who has any further information to please come forward.

“It may be that the criminals that targeted this machine had been in the area in the days leading up to the event, scoping the area."
