A CLASSIC Oscar-winning comedy and a legendary rock 'n' roll concert comeback both turn 50 this year and form part of Vue Cheshire Oaks' Big Screen Events calendar in August.

Mel Brooks's The Producers returns to screens in a stunning 50th anniversary, 4K restoration, on Sunday, August 5.

Washed-up Broadway producer Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel) and timid accountant Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder) realise that under the right circumstances, a producer could make more money with a flop than with a hit. They embark on a scheme to come up with the most sure-fire flop waiting to happen, not knowing that they could actually have the most unlikely hit of all time on their hands.

Elvis Presley's '68 Comeback Special remains one of the most legendary concerts of all time, and now for one night only, it comes to the big screen on Thursday, August 16.

The concert was Elvis's first live TV performance in seven years and saw him playing with a full band in front of a small crowd of diehard fans. Elvis performed classic hits such as Hound Dog and Love Me Tender along with then-new songs A Little Less Conversation and If I Can Dream.

Screenings will feature the 90-minute concert along with an exclusive look at the making of the special.

Johnny Carr, alternative content manager at Vue UK and Ireland, said: "Once again, we are bringing a superb line-up of some of the most iconic music and film of all time."

Other highlights include Andre Rieu's 2018 Maastricht Concert: Amore (Encore) on Sunday, August 5; BlacKkKlansman and Q&A on Monday, August 20 and Jonas Kaufmann: Under the Stars on Thursday, August 30.
