A CHESTER eco fundraiser is preparing to run 100km in the space of just 10 hours this Saturday in a bid to bring SuperTrees to the city.

Steve Hughes, who runs the ForEST (For Eco SuperTrees) group, will look to go the distance on a treadmill at the Hoole Way (Mecca Bingo) Roundabout from 10am.

People are invited to come along and show their support at the event, which will feature food and drink stalls, live entertainment, mural painting and the chance to run 1km with Steve.

Steve, 27, is behind Chester's SuperTrees, a plan to transform the Hoole Way Roundabout near the city's new bus station into a thriving eco space.

The centrepiece of the proposed space would be three new SuperTrees sculptures, based on the iconic Singapore structures, symbolically representing biodiversity in the city.

The plans, which Cheshire West and Chester Council is prepared to support if planning permission is approved, would also see the current overgrown landscape at the roundabout given an extensive makeover, featuring inspirational murals and solar panels.

While about £100,000 has already been raised for the project – currently scheduled to begin in 2019 – about £50,000 more is required.
