Firefighters in Whitchurch and Audlem were on hand to help put out a huge fire in Burleydam in involving hay, straw and a combine harvester.

Crews from the towns were called to the scene at 4.20pm on Sunday alongside Cheshire firefighters following reports of the large fire.

Two appliances from Crewe attended, along with one from Audlem and one from Nantwich, and were joined by an appliance from Whitchurch.

Firefighters used hose reels and fire beaters and were assisted by local farmers in containing the fire.

The blaze was extinguished by 6pm and crews remained at the scene for 30 minutes to dampen down.

Officers at Whitchurch station tweeted: "Incident in Burleydam. We were assisted by a crew from @AudlemFire. Once in attendance we made pumps five for personnel and water with crews from @NantwichFS and @CreweFireStn assisting.
