CHESHIRE police say there were "no serious incidents" in Chester or Ellesmere Port in the aftermath of England's World Cup defeat on Wednesday night.

Gareth Southgate's men ultimately lost the semi-final against Croatia 2-1 after extra time.

And, while there were a number of incidents officers were called to outside pubs and bars, the force has reported the majority of fans behaved responsibly.

A force spokesman said: "Wednesday evening was a busy night for officers in Chester and Ellesmere Port and we were called to a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour and violence, mostly outside of licensed premises.

"There were no serious incidents, but three people were arrested in Chester for assault. No-one was arrested in Ellesmere Port.

"The majority of people, however, behaved themselves and enjoyed their evening in the right way."

One of the anti-social behaviour incidents was highlighted by the Ellesmere Port police team on Twitter, where a set of planters was knocked over outside the Port Arcades at 9pm.

The police team is calling on anyone with information to call 101 and quote incident number IML 120935.

Cheshire police has also confirmed extra officers will be deployed in Chester on Saturday, as a Chester Racecourse raceday is scheduled to clash with England's third-place play-off match against Belgium.
