THE youngest members of the Scout family got an early taste of adventure when Mersey Weaver District ran its first Beaver camp.

The event brought together Beavers from across the district which includes Frodsham, Helsby, Alvanley, Norley, Ince and Elton, for a weekend of fun and challenging activities.

It was part of a nationwide initiative called Damboree aimed at giving as many Beavers as possible the chance of a camping experience.

The camp was held at Queen Charlotte's Wood in Alvanley and the Beavers – aged from six to eight years – had a ball.

Assistant district commissioner for Beavers Caroline Myers said: "We were delighted with how well it went and it was great to see so many young people learning new skills and making new friends."

Over the weekend the Beavers had the chance to try their hand at archery, get up close with birds of prey, make some noise in a drumming workshop and cook on an open fire amongst many exciting activities.

Sandra Johnson, also Beavers' assistant district commissioner, added: "This was our first District Beaver Camp and its success was due to the enthusiasm of the Beavers, the hard work put in by all the adult leaders involved and the support of our young leaders who were wonderful."
