THE Cheshire Search and Rescue team endured its busiest week on record last month.

The team’s busiest seven days, in June, saw a record amount of callouts, including an emergency at Delamere.

The unprecedented list of incidents is the longest for one week since the team formed 14 years ago.

Firstly, in the Malpas area, Cheshire SAR members and two search dogs conducted searches for a missing person, who was found and taken to hospital as a precaution.

Later the same day and into the night, the team was called to Delamere, again assisted by both air scenting and trailing dogs.

The NPAS helicopter was also in use and team members found the missing person safe and well.

Two days later, the team helped find a 96-year old man with dementia who had been missing for hours.

The next day, another call came in for a missing person near to Wilmslow. En route, the team saw someone who matched the description of the missing person, who was left in the care of the police.

That night, the team was on standby for a callout in Macclesfield.

The team also ran the second Rescue, Trauma and Casualty Care (RTACC) first aid course of the year, completed by 15 members to take the number of qualified members to 56.

Team leader Simon Lane said: “Demand on the team has been unprecedented but the response demonstrates the commitment and dedication of this amazing group of volunteers.

“To be in a position to respond to five call outs in five days, fit in weekly training and finish off with a demanding two-day first aid course for 15 people is incredible. The call outs covered the length and breadth of the county and this week positively demonstrates the ability of the team to support Cheshire Police and the people of Cheshire.”
