Chester FC's friendly with Liverpool FC on Saturday could yet be moved to avoid a clash with England's World Cup quarter-final.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds are set to field a strong side against the Blues for the 3pm kick-off, a 4,500 sell-out, which now clashes directly with England's huge last eight tie against Sweden, also a 3pm kick-off.

It had appeared unlikely that the match would be brought forward to accommodate the wishes of supporters to watch both encounters, but it is now understood dialogue has since taken place on Wednesday morning between both clubs about a potential change of kick-off time, with the Anfield club having had contact from several concerned fans since England’s penalty shootout victory over Colombia.

Chester had previously requested an earlier 12 noon kick-off time, but Liverpool have so far been unwilling to make the concession, having already agreed to donate their share of the gate receipts to the National League North club for the sold-out pre-season encounter.

The logistics of a late switch are also a sticking point for the home club.

If the match goes ahead as planned at 3pm, paying spectators face a dilemma as whether to attend the fixture or stay away and watch England's bid to progress to a first World Cup semi-final since 1990.
