ELLESMERE PORT residents turned out in force to mark this year's Armed Forces Day on Saturday (June 23).

A laying of flowers ceremony and service took place at the town's Civic Square, featuring Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire Colonel John Thompson, Ellesmere Port Mayor Karen Shore and Ellesmere Port and Neston MP Justin Madders.

There was also an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs of ex-service personnel, plus stands promoting support services offered to ex-service personnel locally.

A Green Goddess vehicle was also present in the town, with youngsters invited to hop on board.

Ellesmere Port's Armed Forces Day is organised by a steering group with members including representation from various ex-service organisations.

The group is also in contact with the Royal British Naval Association, RBL, WRVS and WI and all cadet organisations.

The town would have held Armed Forces Day this coming Saturday (June 30), but as it would have clashed with the national event in Llandudno, the decision was made to hold it one week earlier.
