A NESTON father has pleaded guilty to pointing an imitation firearm at a man in the street and firing it.

David Walker, 51, of Spenser Road, admitted pointing and firing a starting pistol at Harry Saint at just after 9pm on Saturday, May 19, in Parkgate Road, Neston, near the Greenland Fishery pub.

His son Jake Walker, 23, of Mayfield Gardens, Neston, has pleaded guilty to a charge of affray in the same incident but has denied possessing a knife.

Prosecuting at Chester Crown Court, Mandy Nepal said there would need to be a trial arranged for the knife possession charge, which was expected to last for three days.

Miss Nepal added there were potentially more defendants in the case as several more people might be charged in connection with the Parkgate Road incident. However, at this stage, police had not charged anyone else.

Mike Gray, defending, said he would consider making a renewed bail application for Jake Walker.

He said this was in light of the guilty plea for the other charges, and that it was now accepted by the court the weapon used by David Walker was an imitation firearm and not a real gun, as he was previously charged with.

Honorary Recorder of Chester, Judge Roger Dutton, confirmed a three-day trial would be scheduled for the week beginning October 29, and Jake Walker was to be remanded in custody at this stage.

If anyone else was charged in connection with the incident, Judge Dutton added that should not impede the scheduled trial.

He added the sentencing of David Walker would take place after the trial for Jake Walker had concluded.

David Walker was also remanded in custody.
