FIREFIGHTERS in Cheshire have been called to three tree stumps on fire in as many days.

In at least two of the incidents the fire was described by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service as being inside the tree stump.

The first incident was in Park Road, Tarporley, just after 8.15pm on Sunday.

The crew used a hose reel jet to put out the fire.

Then, on Monday, fire crews were called at 8.20pm to a report of bushes being on fire on Vicarage Lane in Frodsham.

On arrival the crew found a dead tree stump smouldering in the open.

Firefighters used water to extinguish the fire and make the area safe and were in attendance for less than 15 minutes.

Firefighters were at the scene of the third incident for much longer.

The crew from Ellesmere Port was called to a tree stump being on fire at Mersey Walk in Warrington at noon today (Tuesday, June 16).

On arrival the crew discovered a deep-seated fire in a large tree in woodland at Westy Park.

Firefighters used water to extinguish the fire and then damped down the surrounding area to make it safe.

They were in attendance for 50 minutes.
