GARDEN lovers can enjoy a visit to the garden at Clemley House at Duddon Common, near Tarporley, on Sunday, June 24.

The garden is being opened by Sue and Tom Makin to benefit several good causes including Cheshire Wildlife Trust.

The award-winning cottage garden features an orchard, wildlife ponds and a wildflower meadow. Visitors can also explore the drought tolerant gravel garden and shade garden plus vegetable area and polytunnel.

“This two-acre wildlife-friendly garden is a must for gardening enthusiasts. A visit to Clemley House is a lovely afternoon out and Sue and Tom are always delighted to talk to visitors about their approach to making a beautiful garden which is great for wildlife. We’d like to say a big thank you to the Makins for once again supporting the Trust,” said Jo Darlington, director of fundraising and communications at Cheshire Wildlife Trust.

Cheshire Wildlife Trust runs a ‘Wildlife Friendly Gardening Award’ scheme, of which Clemley House is a proud recipient.

“The scheme is open to everyone. It doesn’t matter how big or small the outdoor space, as long as it is possible to showcase what has been done to help wildlife,” added Jo Darlington.

“This might be through creating a mini wildflower meadow, avoiding using harmful chemicals or building insect hotels.”

Entries to the scheme receive a plaque, certificate and gardening booklet. Further details about the ‘Wildlife Friendly Gardening Award’ and how to enter can be found on their website: www.cheshirewildlifetrust.org.uk/mywildlifegarden
