THREE men are receiving treatment for stab wounds after an attack in Woodchurch.

Emergency services were called at around 6.10pm yesterday (Thursday) to Arrowe Park Hospital following reports that three men had arrived with 'serious' knife wounds.

The trio remain at the hospital where they continue to be treated.

All are in a stable condition and their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Detectives believe the men were part of two groups involved in a fight in Woodland Road earlier that evening.

A cordon is in place for forensic examinations to take place.

Police are carrying out house-to-house enquiries and CCTV appeals.

A 40-year-old man from Woodchurch was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

Detective inspector Brian O'Hagan said: "We believe a number of men, armed with various weapons including a knife and a baseball bat, were involved in this assault and we are working to trace all parties.

"I'm sure if you were in the area at the time you would have seen or heard something and I'd urge anyone who witnessed this incident to get in contact. Those involved in this type of violence need to be traced and taken off our streets."
