HUNDREDS of residents turned up to enjoy what is one of the biggest community events in Broughton.

Rachael Watterson, one of the organisers for the Broughton and Bretton Carnival, said over one thousand people turned up to enjoy the day.

She added: “It was a huge success and we had a fantastic day. I think Broughton has a good community and a lot of people come to support it.

“I think people look forward to the carnival now, they know it’s going to happen and the local shops benefit too.”

The annual event is in its eighth year and over £2,000 was raised from ticket sales alone, which will go towards the planning costs of next year’s event.

The all-day event saw activities ranging from a variety of stalls and donkey rides to a dog show and parade of the area.

Rachael said: “There used to be a carnival years ago and because Broughton has expanded, we wanted to bring it back and bring the community together, it’s the only big event in the area that does that.

“In particular, I want to thank Chester Chain, the local councillors, North Wales Police PCSO’s and the Airbus apprentices and security, it was all voluntary work they put in.”
