THIS was the "epic" mistake made by council contractors who had a bit of trouble spelling the word "school" this week.

The mistake, painted in big yellow letters on the road outside Woodslee Primary in Bromborough, was made by council-hired staff, who were close but not close enough with their attempt, which read "SOHOOL".

School staff saw the funny side of it, and as well as calling the contractors back to re-do the job, saw it as a learning opportunity for its pupils.

Headteacher Susannah McShane said: "Every day is a school day.

"Road markers were called back to Woodslee Primary on Thursday to correct an ‘epic’ mistake.

"We embraced this mistake as an opportunity for learning which is exactly what we established as the school’s mission and vision on: it's the Woodslee Way … we learn all day!"

A council spokesman said: "Top marks to the contractor who corrected this mistake on the same day it was made.

"We trust they will be giving the red-faced employee a detention to work on his lines!"

The correction was made after people took to social media to tell the contracted workers "you had one job".

Ms McShane added: "We are always learning, which is what we say to our acorns (pupils) – what a fantastic opportunity for our learners to see that we make mistakes yet we learn from them to improve."
