A TRIO of cute guinea pigs have moved into their new home at a Chester school.

Scrambles, Bubbles and Popcorn were given a warm welcome by pupils at The Firs School and will live in the new Fir Cones pre-school garden area.

Teachers hope to use the cuddly creatures to educate youngsters about the natural world.

Headteacher Lucy Davies said: “The children have really enjoyed welcoming the guinea pigs to their new home and have been learning about how to look after them and the importance of a keeping them clean and well fed.

“The guinea pigs are also receiving lots of cuddles and are given lots of time in their outdoor run. At the Firs School we have a Firs Farm and the arrival of the guinea pigs is part of our aim to educate children all about the environment and animals."

The school has three team houses - Hawks, Falcons and Eagles - and each team house has been awarded one of the guinea pigs and voted for their favourite name.

Scramble is the Hawks, Bubbles for Falcons and Popcorn for the Eagles.
