Ellesmere Port boxer Mason Cartwright has vowed to bounce back after surrendering his unbeaten record.
The welterweight fighter was in action against Darren Tetley at Leeds United's Elland Road stadium on Saturday when he was pulled out by the doctor in the penultimate round of 10.
Cartwright suffered a first defeat in 15 fights and the bout was part of the undercard to Josh Warrington's shock win over Lee Selby to claim the IBF featherweight world title.
Cartwright, 25, was on top in the early exchanges against the hometown boxer, but Tetley began to fight back later in the contest and dropped Cartwright in the eighth round, leaving him with a badly cut lip.
The doctor stepped in and ordered the referee to stop the fight.
“If it was up to me, guys, I would have happily boxed the 10th round,” Cartwright posted on his social media feed.
“I’m sorry guys. But I proved my class through the fight and I’ll be back when I heal.”
