A football club aims to encourage girls to enjoy football.

Members from Chester Football Club's Community Trust visited Ysgol Ty Ffynnon in Shotton to encourage girls to play more sports and teach them skills in the physical activity.

The session was for foundation stage and year one pupils to get rid of the stigma of football being associated with males.

Ross Shepherd, deputy head teacher, said: “I think it’s important for the girls and it creates new opportunities for them.

“You don’t often associate girls with football, so by doing this, I think it opens doors for them.”

The deputy head teacher said the school always tries to work with the local community to create more opportunities for the children.

He added: “It’s great to see the girls working as a team and developing their skills. I think it has encouraged them to take part in sport, both in and out of school.”
