CHESTER’S first gay and inclusive rugby club is about to unveil its new kit alongside the city’s MP and a "seven-foot drag queen".

Formed just six months ago, Chester Centurions RUFC is holding its ‘big reveal’ event tomorrow (Friday, May 4) at the Old Queen’s Head pub on Foregate street.

The club welcomes all adults, regardless of gender, sexuality or rugby ability to learn and enjoy playing the sport in a welcoming environment with zero tolerance to homophobia and bigotry.

Its kit launch event will start at 7pm where MP Chris Matheson has agreed to show off the new shirt. Entertainment will be provided by a seven-foot-tall drag queen acting as Master of Ceremonies.

Club treasurer Matt Cook said: “We are inspiring ambassadors who are breaking down the barriers of stereotypes, stigma and making everyone feel included.

“The brand-new club is the 14th active, inclusive rugby union club in England and part of the LGBT sporting body known as International Gay Rugby (IGR) composed of over 90 member rugby clubs worldwide.

“We work with the RFU to stimulate the creation of new gay and inclusive rugby teams across the country in a project called ‘Spirit of Rugby 2012’, aimed at increasing the participation of under-24 year olds in sports.

“Just six months since the first training session, the Chester Centurions already have over 35 regular members and have attracted enough sponsorship to buy our first-ever playing kit.”
