A PUB landlord in Ellesmere Port is preparing to raffle off a car to raise money for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

John Holmes, of the Horse and Jockey on Dock Street, got a shock when Peter Ellams approached him to offer his old Hyundai Getz as a prize.

He had just bought a new car and said he’d rather the hospice made money out of it rather than him.

“It’s a nice little car,” said Mr Ellams, of Newtown, Chester. “It runs perfectly and if we can get £300 or £400 for it then it’s going to a good cause.”

The raffle will take place at the pub on Sunday, April 15.

Mr Holmes said: “He asked me if I wanted it and then we just had a bit of a brainwave to give the money raised to the hospice as they do such an amazing job.”
