Chester supporters have broken the £100,000 mark in their fundraising efforts to help save the cash-strapped Blues.

In late January, the full extent of Chester's financial crisis was revealed by board members and City Fans United, the supporters group who own the club following Chester's reformation in 2010.

An initial target of £50,000 - needed to save the club from insolvency in the short-term - was raised within a fortnight, thanks to various donations and fundraisers, including an All-Star benefit match at Chester organised by Colin Murray and Michael Owen.

A youth team fixture raised over £12,500 and recent efforts including a charity walk from club legend Grenville Millington and Ed Jones recently raised £7,500.

The CFU tweeted on Monday night: "We can now confirm that a figure of £100,000 has been raised for @ChesterFC - the battle for survival continues."

The CFU have set a fresh fundraising target of £150,000 which - with relegation into National League North now looking almost certain - is needed to help safeguard the future of the club, with major liabilities on the playing budget for next season expected to have a serious impact on what business Chester can do.
