NOT even a brick through the window can deter regulars at one Ellesmere Port café from tucking into a hearty breakfast and a brew.

Staff at The Village Café on Whetstone Hey, Great Sutton, arrived for work on Sunday morning (March 18) to discover huge holes in the shop window.

But manager Sue Flood told The Standard that they chose to remain open and went on to record one of their busiest days.

“We just boarded up the window and carried on as normal,” said Sue, 33. “It was really busy!”

Police are currently investigating what happened and posted a message on Facebook that read: “Some mindless person(s) have thrown a brick through the Village Café! Did you see anything? We will bring those responsible to justice.

“Help us to help you; and let's stop idiots who like to smash windows because they think it's entertaining!”

Sue, who has run the popular café for just over a year, said it was likely “just kids”.

“Everything is fine around here normally,” she said. “We’ve got some really good, loyal customers. It ended up being a really busy day and we had lots of people asking us what had happened.”

She said the insurance company were currently totting up the cost of the damage.

People have responded to the vandalism with shock on social media.

One woman wrote: “Kids these days think they can get away with everything since they say you can’t smack them Bloody country has gone down hill!”

And another said: “Absolutely disgusting when the owners are working hard to run their business.”

But one man added: “some of the time it's people in their twenties and thirties doing this. So very sad.”

If you have any information on the incident, call the police on 101.
