PLANS are in the pipeline to convert a plot of land into a cemetery for up to 200 burial plots.

Wrexham Council has received an application to use land north of Bridgeman House, High Street, Bangor-on-Dee as a cemetery, as burial space in the area is becoming limited.

The supporting statement submitted with the application explains that the existing cemetery which adjoins the parish church is reaching capacity, and the community council wishes to ensure provision for the future is available when needed.

It is anticipated that approximately 200 burial plots would become available.

The statement says: "Funerals are most likely to be held in the parish church and the site is as close as possible to the church.

"Mourners would be able to walk from the service to the internment.

"Access for the hearse and maybe one of the funeral cars will be by way of an established right of way along the existing track on top of the flood defence bank."

It adds: "The provision of a cemetery is an essential local facility and it is difficult to see a more suitable location than Bangor-on-Dee.

"The chance of any problems arising as a result of burials or the traffic associated with them is miniscule.

"It is in an extremely sustainable location and the majority of visits to the site are expected to be foot traffic.

£The council is urged to grant planning permission."

Wrexham Council's planning committee will make a decision on the application at a future date.
