A chemistry graduate accused of punching his girlfriend in the face as they walked along Bangor High Street received a twelve months conditional discharge from magistrates.

Court chairwoman Sandra Ogden Jones at Llandudno said: "We do believe this was a one-off.”

Shaun Morris, aged 27, of Seiriol Terrace, Bangor, must pay £105 costs after he admitted common assault on Katrina Cook.

Prosecutor James Neary said CCTV recorded the early morning assault on the victim who had a swollen eye and grazed nose.

“She decided he shouldn’t be allowed to do this and reported the matter to the police,” Mr Neary said.

Donald Roberts, defending, said: "He accepts he shouldn’t have acted in the way he did. However, it was completely out of character.

"Both parties had been drinking and were walking home. It appears to have been one glancing blow.”

The solicitor said it was a “one-off” and Morris regretted it very much. The couple lived together, he added.
