The father of a five-year-old boy with a muscle wasting condition said he feels "blessed in so many ways" by support from the community.

Craig Edwards, of Buckley, and partner Hannah Grindley, discovered that their beautiful baby boy, Jenson Edwards, had muscular dystrophy at just three-years-old.

The parents were distraught to learn that Jenson was suffering with a type of condition which would inevitably render him unable to walk and to which there currently is no known cure.

Craig said: "Going back two years when we first found out about Jenson, I didn’t know how the hell we were going to cope. I’m sat here now knowing how we are going to cope and it’s with the awesome help of everyone who has supported us along the way."

In light of Jenson's news in 2016, Hannah, Craig, and a group of dedicated relatives and friends took to pounding the pavements as a coping method.

In the months that followed, the group has now formed the official 'Team Jenson,' who have collectively participated in over a dozen running, walking, and extreme sports events to raise awareness and funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) which is the type Jenson is suffering from.

Craig told the Leader he is "overwhelmed" by the support and finds it difficult to put into words how much the community's support means to the Edwards family.

He said after Wrexham Half Marathon on Sunday: "I'm sat here on my own just smiling from ear to ear with the amount of effort all of you guys are doing. Honestly you would not believe how amazing this makes me feel."

"I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. It means more than anything in the world to us knowing everyone is doing what they can. When Jenson is old enough to understand he is going to be shocked to the core to know what you have all done to try help him.

"Fingers crossed what we are doing will eventually pay off and they will find that all important cure. We do feel blessed in so many ways with everyone behind us."

Team Jenson won't stop at any hurdle in their race to raise funds before "time runs out for our little boy," according to parents Hannah and Craig.

The team's crowdfunding has currently raked in just over £4,700 and with a target of £6,000, the team hope this year's events - including the Jones Crisp Anglesey Half Marathon on Sunday - will help them reach their goal in no time.
