MEMBERS of the public are being reminded to use official recycling facilities in order to reduce fly-tipping.

Queensway councillor Carrie Harper told the Leader she was walking down Bryn Estyn Lane towards Redwither Lane over the weekend when she found a variety of objects dumped at the side of the road including a plastic chair and a small trampoline.

Cllr Harper said: "There was general litter and fly-tipping along Bryn Estyn Lane through to Redwither Lane and Cefn Road.

"It is usually a nice walk but looking pretty rough at the moment - all the verges looked very untidy.

"With the litter I assume it is people throwing things out of their windows as they drive down the road.

"Other councillors have also said there has been an increase in fly-tipping in their areas."

Cllr Harper reported the objects to Wrexham Council and called on members of the public to make use of the proper waste and recycling services offered by the authority.

She added: "It is just laziness, the rest of us have to enjoy the county as well.

"In this case the recycling centre is less than a mile away."

A spokesman for Wrexham Council confirmed the rubbish had been reported and would be investigated.

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport, said: “Incidences of fly tipping are always investigated and where the culprit is found we will not hesitate to bring charges against them.

"It is always disappointing that people choose to fly tip rather than use the free to use household recycling centres.

"Anyone who spots fly tipping should email contact-us@wrexham.gov.uk or online at www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/env_services/service_requests/fly_tipping.cfm"

The council's household recycling centres are based in Bryn Lane on Wrexham Industrial Estate, The Lodge in Brymbo and Wynnstay Bank in Plas Madoc.
