A MAN who accidentally cut his throat with a power tool is on the mend, his grandmother has said.

Yesterday the Leader reported how a man was taken to hospital in Stoke by air ambulance after sustaining serious injuries in Rhosymedre on Friday.

The man, Lewis Truby from the village, had an accident with an angle grinder while working on his car - his grandmother Amy Truby said - which resulted in deep cuts to his throat and arm as well as a broken jaw.

But after a few days in hospital the 25-year-old is making progress, Mrs Truby said.

"He is comfortable and he has been up - I am hoping to go an see him," she said.

"Apparently he has had a walk around the ward so he must be feeling a bit better.

"There is a bit of progress but he is still poorly."

She explained over the weekend how Mr Truby's mother Sharon, an A&E nurse, was informed of the situation and arrived in time to give life-saving support to her 25-year-old son until paramedics arrived.

Mrs Truby added: "He has been very lucky. If it had gone another eighth of an inch it would have cut his windpipe. It will be a long job. He has to have a lot of operations."

Nathan Jones, a friend of Mr Truby, told the Leader: "What we have been told is that he was cutting a pipe off an exhaust on the car. He had a kickback from the grinder and it cut his throat very deep. It cut him to the bone on his arm but apparently he has missed every vital organ."

An emergency ambulance and North Wales Police officers were also called to the village to assist.
