A PREGNANT mum-of-six admitted stealing cosmetics worth £40 from Tesco in Chester.

Kelly Grundy, 34, was caught on store CCTV putting the items into her handbag on January 30 this year.

She made her way to the till to pay for other goods but was apprehended by staff when she failed to pay for the cosmetics.

Police officers arrested her but after discovering she was pregnant allowed her to attend the station for a voluntary interview later.

Grundy, of South Parade, Pensarn, Abergele, said she had no intention of shop-lifting when she entered the store and had a history of heroin addiction.

She has seven previous convictions for 12 offences, the last of which was in September last year for handling stolen goods.

Andrew Mawson, defending, said this was her first conviction for shoplifting and stressed the items were of low value and for her own use.

Grundy lives with her sister and has six children, the youngest of which is seven months old.

Magistrates gave her a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
