A COUPLE held a party to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary – and asked people to donate to the Countess of Chester Hospital’s Babygrow Appeal rather than buying gifts.

Marjorie and David Edwards, from Upton, Chester, received a message from the Queen and also celebrated with family and friends at the British Legion.

They married on May 4, 1957, and after honeymooning in Torquay were soon parted as David had to take up his National Service in the RAF.

But 60 years later they are happier than ever.

Marjorie and David wanted to support the Babygrow Appeal as their son, Anthony, was born at the City Hospital in 1959, five weeks early weighing 4lbs.

They raised £500 for the appeal and a further £200 towards the Ultrasound Breast Scanner Appeal, as Marjorie has received care on the Breast Care Unit.

They managed to find time in their busy social life to pop into the fundraising office to present the cheque to Kathy Kenney, community and events
fundraiser.

Kathy said: “Marjorie and David are an inspiration to us all – 60 years of wedded bliss – and they are always planning their next social outing – be it a holiday or bingo at the Legion. Their generosity of spirit and happy nature is a wonder to see.

“We are extremely grateful to them.”
